Microsoft finally admits that Xbox Game Pass decreases game sales

In a Microsoft report, it states “Microsoft also submitted that its internal analysis shows a []% decline in base game sales twelve months following their addition on Game Pass”. They redacted the actual percent. This goes against what the ceo of Xbox, Phil Spencer, said in 2018. He said that Game Pass would improve the base sale of games.

Samsung 990 Pro Firmware Update Addresses Failing SSD Health

Both the 980 and 990 Pro have had reports of rapidly declining health, but the 980 Pro’s woes were addressed with the 5B2QGXA7 firmware. The firmware update, 1B2QJXD7, for the 990 Pro was released on February 13, 2023, which fixed the rapid deterioration of the ssd. Sadly, this update did not undo the deterioration that has already happened for unlucky 990 Pro users.

Kia and Hyundai update their cars to fix software liabilities

Over 8 million of these cars are eligible for this free anti-theft software after the viral “Kia Challenge” on TikTok. This challenge has resulted in hundreds of stolen cars and  according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,  at least 14 reported crashes and eight fatalities. Thieves known as the “Kia Boyz” would post instructional videos on TikTok on how to bypass the vehicles security system with simple tools like a USB cable. The thefts are reportedly easy to pull off because many 2015-2019 Hyundai and Kia vehicles lack electronic immobilizers that prevent thieves from simply breaking in and bypassing the ignition. The feature is standard equipment on nearly all vehicles from the same period made by other manufacturers. Make sure to check if your Kia/Hyundai are eligible for the software.

EU votes to effectively ban new combustion engine cars by 2035

The EU is the world’s largest trading bloc and home to key automakers including Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz Group. The rules still have a couple of more stages until becoming law. They need to be formally endorsed by the Council of the EU and be published in the EU Official Journal. There are exceptions to car manufacturers that make less than 10,000 cars or 22,000 vans annually.

Elon Musk orders twitter engineers to prioritize his tweets because he’s jealous of the President

During the superbowl weekend, Biden’s tweet, in which he said he would be supporting his wife in rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, generated nearly 29 million impressions. Musk, who also tweeted his support for the Eagles, generated a little more than 9.1 million impressions before deleting the tweet in apparent frustration. He then flew to the Bay Area on Sunday night to demand answers from his team. Within a day, the consequences of that meeting would reverberate around the world, as Twitter users opened the app to find that Musk’s posts overwhelmed their ranked timeline.

Susan Wojcicki steps down as Youtube CEO

Susan Wojcicki steps down after being the CEO of youtube for a total of nine years. In her blog post, she says ”Twenty-five years ago I made the decision to join a couple of Stanford graduate students who were building a new search engine. Their names were Larry and Sergey. I saw the potential of what they were building, which was incredibly exciting, and although the company had only a few users and no revenue, I decided to join the team.” She would now be moving into an advisory role at Google’s parent company, Alphabet, and hopefully teach them how to keep a platform running for more than a month.

PS VR2 reviews are already out

The Playstation VR2 reviews are coming out days before the headsets launch. While I will not be reviewing or reacting to this release other than this newsletter, I can give some insight from other sources. IGN says “With top-notch visual quality and immersively tactile Sense controllers, PlayStation VR2 represents a quantum leap over its predecessor, setting a new standard for console VR gaming.” The headset is about the same price as the PS5 itself and the headset still requires to be connected to a PS5 via cable. But, the price of the PS5 and headset combined is still less than the meta quest pro at around $1500. If you already have a PS5, consider this headset.

Apple releases WebKit patch to fix exploit

Apple releases an emergency patch to fix the exploit to execute arbitrary code on iOS or macOS devices. This exploit could allow an attacker to execute code on vulnerable iPhones, iPads and Mac after a user navigates to a malicious website. Always remember to keep your devices on the latest firmware in order to stay safe.

Apple also releases firmware for their … MagSafe charging cable?

Because Apple hasn’t published update or patch notes, it’s unclear what the firmware update accomplishes. However, they usually involve upgrades to performance and security or expanding compatibility with other devices. They could have done it just to flex that they can update a cable.

The new Bing chat feature is becoming more unhinged

I don’t feel like I am qualified to talk about this, but here are some other people’s experience with the chat bot. In response to this, Microsoft has nerfed Bing to not letting it talk about itself and limiting the amount of responses the chatbot can give to a single query. Here is Microsofts blog post on the subject
